Juneteenth, Midsummer, and Personal Freedom
Hey, it’s Adrianne.
Today is Juneteenth.
My maternal grandfather was a Texan, so this day lands close to home.
It is also Midsummer Eve in Sweden, where I live. A day of light. A day of gathering. A day when people pause.
So today, I am pausing with this question:
Where do I still need to claim my freedom?
Juneteenth reminds us that freedom did not arrive all at once.
It was delayed.
Denied.
Fought for.
Claimed.
And Black people are still fighting for freedom in real time.
I also want to salute Toussaint Louverture, my favorite revolutionary.
A formerly enslaved Haitian leader who helped raise an army and defeated Napoleon’s forces.
Haiti became the first free Black republic in the Western Hemisphere.
And then France made Haiti pay for its own freedom.
That history matters.
Because personal freedom and collective freedom are connected.
Today’s Rooted for Care mindful moment is simple:
Place one hand on your heart.
Take one steady breath.
Say this out loud:
I claim my personal freedom today and every day.
Not just freedom from something.
Freedom to rest.
Freedom to choose.
Freedom to breathe.
Freedom to stop explaining.
Freedom to move with calm under pressure.
Freedom to return to yourself.
This is the work I teach inside Rooted for Care.
Breath.
Movement.
Reflection.
Mental fitness.
One steady shift at a time.
Rooted for Care helps you move from overwhelm to calm with one shift.
Happy Juneteenth.
Mais oui.
We salute the freedom fighters.
